Ashover and the Ashover Light Railway

Geoff's turn to drive and we set off in the dark just after 07:00 and slowly made our way to Milltown where we parked up next to The Miners Arms Inn. Got booted up and headed back down the road towards the junction of Jetting St. and Fallgate. The old Milltown station for the Ashover Light Railway is in the area just to the left over the bridge but its now fenced off and it looks like houses are being built there. We managed to get onto the field just to get a couple of photos. We walked up to the lime kiln where you can still see the old tracks embedded in the ground. We spotted the engine shed over the other side of the river but its on private land.

We walked alongside the river Amber until we climbed up the hillside to Ashover. We found a lovely area with 2 benches where we stopped and had breakfast. After a wander through the village we headed back to the car and then to South Wingfield to have a look at the delapidated railway station there, it has recently been on TV and it has been compuslary purchased. We parked beside the church and walked up to the station but it has been all fenced off. After taking a few pics it was back to the car and then home.

Lovely morning out looking at old railway sites. The Milltown Halt is a wooden shed and looks like its going to be surrounded with houses. The South Wingfield mainline station is in a very poor state but hopefully will be saved.

Shipley Park and American Adventure

Four of us today and set off about 07:15 in Ike's car. Not sure where to go but had to be on a hard footpath because of the rain we've had. After a bit of a run around we ended up parking on the outskirts of the old American Adventure Park in Pit Lane. We just followed the track and went clockwise around the lake, of course the track is nowhere near the water and to our surprise the whole area has been landscaped for a new housing estate. We carried on until we got to the area where the tower building is. We found a bench and had our breakfast. After breakfast we got back on the track and continued in a clockwise direction to the other side of the lake. We passed many dog walkers in fact the most we have ever seen on a Sunday morning sometimes stopping to talk.
Heading back up the hill we got great views of the lake and the landscaping for the housing complex. An unusual feature we spotted was these huge concrete lego blocks but they were stacked up like some kid had been building them.
