Rolleston on Dove

This week we headed south just over the border into Rolleston on Dove in Staffordshire.
A village none of us had been to visit before and the intention was to find an old railway track.
Straight down the A38 to Burton then turn west to the village.
There are a lot of nice big old houses there and everything was really neat and tidy, indeed this village was named the midlands prettiest village in 2006.

The Spread Eagle on the river Alder

The Spread Eagle Inn dates back to 11th century

Frank Topley, the last village blacksmith died in 1984, his anvil is in the centre of town.

The tree in the foreground was planted by Sir Oswald Mosley on the birthday of King Edward V11 Nov. 9th  to commemorate his coronation 1902 . Sir Oswald was a resident in the village.

Longford Mill

This was a lovely morning walk just a little over 4 miles over very flat ground. A bit windy at times and a bit cold, I'm just glad i took my Russian hat. We called in at Longford on the way back and had to take a pic of the mill that was in glorious light. I don't know who lives in it now but it used to belong to Stuart Webb of Derby County FC. I remember being in there a couple of times taking photo's for their 25th wedding anniversary.
