Red Hill Lock and the River Soar

This week we went south to the river Soar & river Trent. Full house all four of us in Geoff's car and we arrived just after 07:30 and parked up right alongside the footpath sign. Geoff had planned the walk to go to the junction where the 2 rivers (Soar and Trent) meet. It was very flat and surprisingly not very muddy.  We just followed the footpaths all straight forward and the route took us past Radcliffe Power Station on the opposite side of the river. The next point of interest was Redhill Lock & Bridge, its on a small island on the river Soar.  From there we walked along the banks to the junction of the 2 rivers then on a bit further until we stopped for breakfast in a sheltered area behind some trees. After breakfast we set off and encountered a friendly horse. All well and good until it started to follow us, it seamed particularly fond of Geoff until in the end he was getting a bit worried about it. We went into this huge field and our Rob stopped us and pointed out the hares jumping and running all over, a fantastic sight. Well i was trying to get a couple of pics and lining up the camera and i was getting nudged, i thought it was Ike and when i said what you messing at he said its not me it was the bloody horse trying to get into my rucksack. It was a straight forward trek back to the car from there and then home.

Apparently its days are numbered and it wont be there for ever.

This was a nice walk on level ground, very cold and a bit breezy but we saw a lot of wildlife and i even had a lady singing happy birthday to me.
See you next week.
