Halifax Airplane Crash Site & the Missing Guide Stoop

We returned to Just outside Grindon this week and went to find the Memorial Cairn for the Halifax plane that crashed on Grindon Moor in 1947. We parked in Sheldon's Farm, Geoff got permission from the farmer ( It just had to be with Geoff Sheldon driving this week) and we followed the footpath which took us directly to the memorial. We took a few photo's then headed back to the car.

After we left Sheldon's Farm we parked up next to the church in Grindon and set off down the track to go to the top of Ossoms Hill. We passed a small group of Belted Galloways including calves and a bull and i was a bit nervous until we got clear.We had our breakfast on the hill overlooking Wetton Mill on one side and Thors Cave on the other side. We got back to the car and set off to where a guide stoop should be but we noticed it was missing last week when we passed the spot. Geoff had printed off some pics from 2012 when we were there so we could match up the exact position. We did a few pics there then headed home and passed through Via Gellia where we stopped to have a look at the old  sheepwash. The sheepwash isn't visible in the summer due to all the vegetation but we had a long interesting talk to a farmer who had lots of friends that Ike knew. From there it was straight home.

This is where a Derbyshire Guide Stoop used to be. Its on the road between Mouldridge Grange and Winster on the Moor Lane Crossroads

Again take notice of the signpost and Geoff is standing in the spot where it used to be.

 These stoops are hundreds of years old and a similar one is missing from Pikehall which is not far away and we wondered if someone is collecting them. If you know of the whereabouts please let us know.
This was an interesting morning although there was a lack of sunshine it was warm and we didn't get wet.
