Mother Cap & Over Owler Tor

We had on idea where we were going this morning, just head north and we'll think about it. Various options were considered and we agreed on Mother Cap to see the remains of the heather before it all went. We've been to this area several times before but always manage to find something different. We parked up where the ice cream van always parks on the B6521 just beside the back entrance to the Longshaw Estate.
Through the gate and down to Burbage brook, cross the bridge and up the old packhorse route across Lawrencefield to the A6187. Cross the road and up through the tree's then a bit of scrambling over rocks to get above the tree line then onto Mother Cap. When i turned around the views were getting better by the minute as the mist swirled around down in the valley off in the distance. We spent a few minutes around Mother Cap a rocky outcrop on Millstone Edge then walked the short distance to Over Owler Tor on the horizon. This is a group of rocks and the views from here this morning have to be the best views in Derbyshire, simply stunning. We had our breakfast here did a few pics including a woodpecker that had landed on the rocks. We wanted to go to Surprise View and with no obviously footpath we just headed through the bracken towards Millstone Edge. We eventually joined up to the footpath and spotted a load of climbers at the top of Millstone Edge. A short walk from there took us to Surprise View with more outstanding views. From there the footpath took us across the road and above Bole Hill then through the woods to Padley Gorge and eventually back to the car.

We passed through Chatsworth Park and the light on the house was brilliant.

A very short walk this but we have been to all the Derbyshire edges in the past and this walk gave us the best views we have ever had. The light was brilliant, the temperature just right for walking, great company what more can you ask for.
