Just 2 of us today. myself and Ike the other 2 were unavailable. Ike's turn to drive and after a quick conflab we decided to go to Great Shacklow Woods and see if the wild Garlic is in flower yet. We set off at 06:00 and parked up in the lay by opposite the old Bone Mill. We crossed the road and walked down to the footbridge to cross the river Wye and had a look at the old bone mill. Very unusual mill having 2 wheels one at each end of the building. We carried on up a steep incline through Great Shacklow Woods passing huge amounts of wild garlic plants still not in full flower. The track eventually levelled out then started to go down. Again there were lots of wild flowers, some common but some i haven't seen before. We came down into Deep Dale and then onto the A6 where we walked along the road back towards the car. We stopped at a bridge to have our breakfast then carried on to the car. Just as we were getting our boots off a Kestrel made an appearance and landed in a tree a couple of hundred yards away.

Flying Scotsman passing through Belper station |
Just the 2 of us and we had a great little walk, took our time and only covered about 2 1/2 miles but what a lovely walk through the woods. We climbed way above the A^ and river Wye then had to come back down again lol. To top it off there was excitement in Belper today when the Flying Scotsman came through, i know Geoff would have liked to have seen it so I've put it on here.
See you next week.
