Frosty Chatsworth Park

It was zero degrees this morning and we weren't sure where to go so we headed north up the A6, we thought one of the edges but in the end passing through Chatsworth Park we decided to have a walk up to the hunting tower. We parked in front of the church in Edensor about 07:05 and set off towards the house. We walked up the first incline and immediately saw a few fallow deer off in the distance, then one standing alone, it was quite a way off and there was a couple of big trees between us and the deer so i used them for cover and got a lot closer before emerging from the tree and zapping it. From this vantage point there were brilliant views down the Derwent Valley and back to Edensor. We got down to the bridge and one of trees there was on fire the colour of it was stunning. We walked along the river bank so we could look back at the bridge and tree with reflections in the river. There was still a bit of frost and mist about an it gave a lovely atmospheric look to my pics. We walked past the house and up past the stable block into Stand Woods. We followed the path up towards the Hunting Tower and eventually came to a lot of steps going up through the woods to the tower. Lovely views from there over Chatsworth Park and we had our breakfast sitting on the tower steps overlooking the cannons to the vista beyond. 3 lovely ladies came jogging to the tower and we had a chat for a few minutes then they shot off down the track. We decided to stick to the proper track on the way down and retraced our steps back to the riverbank to photograph the tree and bridge again because the light was better and the water was very still producing cracking reflections. From there we slowly wandered back to the car with more terrific views of Edensor village and the huge standing stone on the hillside. Back to the car and off home.

A lovely crisp autumn morning for a walk in one of the country's top parks. What more can you want. Some great autumn colours on show with a bit of frost, cracking.
See you next week.
