Loughborough Railways and Canals

A miserable start to the day with a bit of rain and we decided we would risk it. So we set off south to Loughborough and ended up parked outside the Great Central Railway station. It had stopped raining but still some moisture in the air and it was quite damp.  There was no one at the entrance to the station so we just went straight in and what an entrance, all super wooden panels and a lovely rich colour. There was a steep staircase down to the platform level with timber planks down one side and we assumed this is where the luggage was slid down. The platforms were magnificent just as they would have been in there working days. We had a wander around the station met a couple of the workers then headed out a short walk to join the Grand Union Canal. At this point it started raining quite heavy so we ended up under one of the bridges for shelter and decided to have our snap there. I t was chucking it down so after our snap we headed back to the car the way we had came.

despite the very poor light and miserable rain this was still an interesting morning out. A very short and wet walk but well worth that trip to the station.
See you next week
