Trip to Whaley Bridge to see the Dam

Four of us set off in Geoff's car up to Whaley Bridge. We found somewhere to park alongside the Reservoir on Reservoir Road. We could immediately see the pipes and floating platform and the water levels were well down. We found the footpath down to the bottom of the dam and was surprised to see a kiddies playground there. We briefly went into the park and then followed the path to the top of the dam but unfortunately with all the fencing we couldn't really see much. We skirted around the football pitch and then back down into the park, past the war memorial and over the footbridge then joined the A5004. We carried on along the road until we got to the bridge where the tracks were still visible for the Whaley Bridge Incline. There's plenty of fine buildings around as we passed through to the basin where the wharf was. A few active barges were in the basin and we found a seat for our breakfast. After breakfast we walked a bit along the canal to the first bridge then came back the same way and onto the where the car was parked.

The canal seams to be quite popular.
We started off in Belper with decent weather but the further we got north the weather changed to that horrible wet misty stuff. We could just see the other side of the dam when we got there. It got slightly better but still enjoyed our stroll around.
See you next week
