Linacre Reservoirs and Old Bramton

Only 3 of us again this week, we hadn't a clue where we were going, just head north. We went through Chatsworth Park stopped and had a look at a map and decided to visit the 3 reservoirs near Old Brampton. None of us had been there before so we parked just outside the village and followed the footpath over the fields to the first reservoir. Pleasantly surprised at the water and woods it looked as though it is well maintained by the local water authority. We just followed the footpaths through the woods along the edges of the reservoirs and over the dams. We had breakfast on a nice bench and continued through the mixed woodland and through the village back to the car.

 These 3 reservoirs were constructed at different times from 1855 and the last 1904. Until 1909 the water was originally stored piped to customers.  Filter beds were installed after customers complained about the quality of the water. A quote from the time read :- because of the quality of the water it was used by the poor as soup, used by the middle classes to wash there clothes and by the elite to water there gardens.

Found a whole group of these on a fallen tree. Couldn't spot any fairies though

  After we left Old Brampton we made a detour to avoid the traffic building up for the Country Fair at Chatsworth, the number of cars heading in that direction was unbelievable, just glad we were going in the opposite direction. We passed 3 of of old friends (Stoops) and possibly found  a modern one.

 We ended up at Cromford canal and managed to get a couple of pics of the barge coming in.

This was a nice little walk in an area we hadn't been to and very enjoyable.
I missed my mate Geoff and he will be  back next week.
