Silverhill Woods and the Miners Sculpture

Back to full strength this week with all 4 of us some returned from holiday. A friend of mine had mentioned a sculpture in the middle of Silverhill Woods near Teversal in Nottinghamshire so we decided to go and have a look. We set off at 06:00 and went up to Ambergate then the A38 to the junction of the M1 then through Huthwaite to the car park for Silverhill. I had a quick look at my map and spotted some ponds. It was a circular route around to the ponds and then a spur up to the miners statue. The tracks are firm and well laid out with some slopes up to the miners statue "Testing for Gas".
Silverhill is an artificial hill near Teversal in Nottinghamshire, and is one of the highest points in the county at 204.3 metres (670 ft). Originally it was a mine spoil heap on the site of the former Silverhill colliery which closed in the 1990s. It was subsequently landscaped in 2005 by Nottinghamshire County Council.

The sculpture, called Testing for Gas, was created by artist Antony Dufort as "A tribute to the Miners of the Nottinghamshire coalfields", commemorating coal mining at the 85 Nottinghamshire collieries

This was a cracking little walk, we decided to stay local in case we got caught in the forecast rain. Luckily it only rained for a few minutes then we were ok. It was nice to visit somewhere none of us had been even if it was in Nottinghamshire lol.

Mini break in Northumberland

We hav and Alnwick,we just had a lovely break visiting a few places in Northumberland. We stayed a t a very nice B & B in Whitley Bay and had 3 days to visit some of the beautiful areas around Northumberland.
Day 1 we visited Craster and Dunstanburgh Castle. Day 2 was Cragside House and Gardens the former home of Lord William Armstrong. Day3 was a trip to Seahouses and the Farne Islands and a very quick trip to Bamborough Castle.
