Monks Dale

This week we had a late start due to me stopping up to watch the football and turning up 20 minutes late. We went up the A6 and parked opposite the church close to Millers Dale station. The footpath started at the side of the church and went straight uphill. Geoff had warned us the route through Monks Dale in some places was quite bad underfoot. The surface was covered with exposed sharp limestone and very steep in places. He wasn't wrong.
The trail went from grassy slopes, rough rocks and deep forest where we walked up the dry bed of the  brook. In the forest section everything was covered in moss with an intense green colour. We emerged from the woods and had breakfast sitting by the roadside with a curious cow watching.

These green lanes above Millers Dale are just so peaceful and quiet. All we heard were the songs of Sky larks.

Back to St. Anne's church and the car

This was a cracking morning with some strenuous sections over the rocky trail, Some splendid views form the meadow land on the high ground. Around 4 miles with a couple of steep inclines well worth the effort.
