Following the Route of the Old Derby Canal

First walk back for us all together in 2017, 3 of us were ready at 07:00 but Geoff had it down for 07;30. It was Robs turn and we set off south to Borrowash and parked up in a side street Central Ave and set off following the route of the old Derby Canal. No signs of the canal except a couple of bridges still there that spanned over it in times gone by. The route took us along the covered in canal then around the Celanese plant and the sewage works and then onto Raynesway. We then took the footpath that went alongside the river Derwent where we saw a lot of fishermen ans had  chat with the local water bailiff who was checking out fishing tickets. We saw a kingfisher flying across the river, they are a beautiful vivid blue. We also saw some Teal and  kestrel but despite all the fishermen no fish. Off the river walk and onto the main road and back to the car.

 This was a nice start to the year, a pretty flat walk just short of 6 miles. It was good to get together after a few weeks and looking forward to the spring.
