Ashopton to Fairholmes

Today we went on a walk that only Geoff had been on many years ago. We set off in Geoff's car at 06:00 as usual and parked up at 07:00 just over the Ashopton bridge. We walked up the road towards the dams for a couple of hundred yards then found the footpath going up the hill towards Crookhill Farm. We skirted around Crook Hill and followed the footpath through lovely pasture land to a footpath junction that eventually lead to Lockerbrook Farm Outdoor centre. We stopped there for our breakfast then took a shortcut (well we thought it was) to get back on track to Fairholmes. The track went through the forest and was quite steep in places and we just took our time. We came across the water channel that came through the mountain from Edale then the last descent down past the old foundations for the Fairholmes railway viaduct and onto the road. The idea was to walk to this point and catch the bus back down to the Ashopton bridge where the car was parked. We only had to wait about 15 minutes for the bus.

A lovely walk on tracks we hadn't been to with lovely views even though we were up in the mist. It started off quite cool but we soon warmed up with an ascent of over 600 feet to the highest point. A varied landscape of woods, pastures and lovely hills.
See you next week.
