Lumsdale Loop

All 4 of us today and with all the rain we thought it would be a good idea to visit Lumsdale Falls. My turn to drive and we set off at 06:30 headed straight up the A6 and parked outside the Highfields School. We wandered down the lane to the top of the mill complex and first glimpse of the waterfall was awesome with the water just thundering over the top. We had a walk among the ruins and just followed the steps down through the valley. We eventually got onto the lane and found the footpath that went past some derelict mill buildings now being demolished. We found what looks like a cobbled road under the footpath and think this may have been part of a packhorse route. We walked on and got to another brook that had a dam, this must obviously have been the mill pond for other mills downstream. The path lead us eventually to Lumsdale Lane and then it was a slow climb back up to the top millpond where we found a bench and had our breakfast before going back up to the car.

This weeks loop around Lumsdale

Apologies for all the water pics. A cracking little walk in varied conditions fro clear blue sky, rain and even a bit of snow. We encountered a bit of very muddy footpaths and a couple of soggy fields but a great little walk.
