The Roaches

4 of us today, set off to the Roaches at the usual 06:00 and eventually settled in a lay bye near to Hen Cloud. We found the footpath and unfortunately it was in an upward direction lol. We wound our way around the hill passing the hall and climbing even higher. We followed the path through the woods and just before we came out of the trees we heard a cuckoo and then i spotted it flying. It settled on a branch long enough to get a pic although it was well out of range for my lens.It dropped out of the tree onto the ground and returned to another branch but this time it had a caterpillar in its beak. From that point we followed a wall to the top of Hen Cloud and the views from the top were gorgeous. We had a rest and had our breakfast there.

Waterfall in the village of Upper Hulme

We wandered across to the Don Whillans memorial hut but it was occupied so we couldn't get close to it. From there it was a slow walk back to the car and then a brief stop in Upper Hulme for a shot of the waterfall.
A great little walk just 2 miles but quite an assent and decent, thoroughly enjoyable morning.
See you next week.
