Bramcote Hills Park

With heavy rain forecast plan A was thrown out and after a quick discussion plan B was operated and we set off towards Wollaton Park. My turn to drive and as we got close Rob said we can park in here it used to be free and it still is. By this time it was bucketing down with rain so we sat in the car for about half an hour. I looked at Google maps to see where Wollaton was and it was quite a walk especially in the rain so we decided just to have a quick look around this park where we were. Its called Bramcote Hills Park and we had never been to it. We got booted and suited with waterproof trousers and set off. After 5 minutes we looked like drowned rats. We found an information board and realised this had been an important site in its day. We had a wander around and found some great things to see, the woods are extensive and i imagine would be brilliant in the autumn. We found a lovely walled garden, a memorial for the Holocaust, an ice house. A fabulous Sun Dial Maze and the footprint of the Hills House demolished in 1966. We eventually got back to the car soaking wet but still had a good morning. On the way back we stopped at Straws Bridge and had our breakfast sitting watching the birds.
