Longcliffe, Old Stoop & New Bridge

4 of us this week and Geoff's turn to drive. Geoff wanted to go and visit an old Stoop that disappeared a couple of years ago. It was on a crossroads and we think it was hit by a car or something. I was  driving in that area last year and spotted it. We parked in Longcliffe and set off in reasonable weather although it was very windy.  The route took us partly on a road and partly on the High Peak Trail. First towards Brassington then up across towards Harborough rocks where we joined the High Peak Trail and then back to Longcliffe where we had parked.
From there we had some spare time so we called in at the Ecclesbourne Valley Railway Centre at Wirksworth and had a look around the station.

Lovely old barn

This field is covered in old lead mine workings, we think probably from the 17th & 18th centuries and possibly even the Roman period.

Old buildings at Harborough Rocks

Lovely fern on an old tree

Tree growing straight out of the rock

Why didn't they build these walls straight?

Wirksworth station at the Ecclesbourne Valley Railway Centre

This was a lovely little walk just over 3 miles and we kept dry. Nice to call in at the station just when an engine was heading out.
See you next week.
