It was the usual 6:00 am start from Robs and headed off for Wetton. The road down to the village had great views of Thors Cave so Geoff stopped the car and i got a couple of shots off before carrying on. We parked up just 1/2 mile from Wettonmill and from there it was a steady walk up the valley past the Manor House and then onto the footpath leading to the cross roads where the alleged stoop is. We spotted it straight away and it was in a prominent spot at the crossing of footpaths. It looked like a stoop from a distance but when we got close up and had a good look at it we realised it wasn't a stoop but its certainly an old marker post probably 200 or 300 years old.
After having a look at the post we decided to walk all around Wetton Hill.

When we got back to the car it was only a half mile to Wettonmill so 3 of us walked on while Geoff brought the car up to the Wettonmill car park.
This was just over 3 3/4 miles a lovely morning with some great views. Seeing the hares was a bonus as was the cade lambs being fed. A cracking morning.

ReplyDeleteI just came across your blog whilst doing some looking about the Waterhouses area, my wife Nicki and myself are moving from Eastbourne to Waterhouses within the next few months as an offer has just been accepted on a house in the village.
As we no absolutely nothing about the area other than we just love the country side, it was good to see your blog about walking very close to were we will be living, we are really looking forward to living in the area and being able to go on many walks and cycle rides, I will have to check out your other blogs and get to know the area, we will be living only about half a mile from the start of the Manifold trail so hopefully a good starting point for the area.
If you know of any other great walks in this area we would really appreciate any local information.
