Tissington Trail and The River Dove.

We were just looking forward to a nice steady walk this week because of the high temperatures and one or two had been out on the razzle the previous night!!!
So we headed west to Ashbourne then north to Alsop en le dale where we parked in the layby on the A515.
A short walk took us over the Tissington trail to the B road leading towards Coldeaton. We took a  footpath  before we got to the Coldeaton track which wound its way down past Bradbury's Bank to the river Dove.

Make a lovely holiday cottage

This track leads all the way to the river Dove adj to Iron Tors.

We got to the river Dove adjacent to Iron Tor and walked along to the bridge to Shinning Tor.

Breakfast time on the bridge over the Dove.

At 340m Moat Low is one of the highest points in the area. Bronze Age Bowl Barrow 1m x 29m x 25m enclosed by a stone wall, with a thin covering of trees. Partial excavations by Bateman in 1845 revealed a rock cut grave with two skeletons, bronze axe and a pig jaw. Scheduled Monument 13317.

Passed this lovely strong seat and just had a breather for 5 minutes.

Rob spotted this Meadow Grasshopper and after a pic it gleefully hopped off into the grass.

This has got to be a bonus, not 1 but 3 Six-spot Burnet moths feeding on a Sheepsbit Scabious  

Another cracking morning with the butterflies and moths being a bonus. Everywhere we went this morning the birds were singing, this is not always the case on our morning trips.
Nothing was lost or left behind this week and no animals or insects were injured in the making of this blog.
