Not sure where to go with the weather because it had given out heavy rain so Geoff had thought it might be a good idea to zap off to Nottingham and catch the tram to Nottingham Station then walk along the Nottingham Canal to Trent Bridge. We left about 06:10 because IKE had overlain. He claimed he was awake at 05:00 but thought we wouldn't be going anywhere because of the rain and went back to sleep. Anyway it was my turn to drive and we got to the Toton park & ride around 06:50. The ticket machine took a bit of sussing out but we only waited for a few minutes to catch a tram. It didn't take long to get to Nottingham Station, we got outside and admired the old railway stations red sandstone, passed a couple of giant robins, then we found our way to the canal. We passed some fantastic old buildings but a lot were in bad condition, such a shame they've been left to rot. Some modern buildings as well that were apartments along the canal. We came across what we think was the old Great Northern railway station, now turned into a modern gym, next to it were some derelict warehouse buildings obviously from the railway era. Further along the canal a BMW motorbike was propped up against a wall, it had definitely been dragged out of the canal. We got to Trent Bridge and had our breakfast sheltering under it. The high water levels marked on the wall made interesting reading. After breakfast we made our way back to the station and back on the tram to Toton. There was one spot near to the flood lock where i could photograph Notts County Football ground and spin in the opposite direction and got the Forest football ground.

Despite the dull & damp weather this was a new experience for me being on the Nottingham Tram, i have to say a much better ride on this than the bus. A cracking walk passing through some brilliant history and straight into the modern Nottingham.
See you next week.
