Stanage Edge and Robin Hoods Cave

My turn to drive this week and because we have a lot more early light we start at 06:00 am from our Robs. Seeing the forecast was good for today we thought up n one of the edges so we headed up the A6, through Chatsworth Park, Calver, Grindleford and Hathersage then up a lane called The Dale to the car park at the foot of Stanage Edge. We were the 2nd car in the car park and headed up the footpath to the top of the edge. Its not quite a 200 foot climb to the edge from the car park and i had to stop and get my breath a couple of times and take in the views. We walked along the edge and found Robin Hoods Cave, Rob and myself went down to have a look. Back up onto the edge and we decided to go and have a look at the new Stanage Pole, on the way we bumped into a cyclist and had a nice chat with him. We could see the pole and a group of D 0f  E kids came past us and made a nice pic as they gathered around the pole. We had our breakfast here then did a few photos around the pole. Fortunately for us a very nice young lady was passing by and she did some pics of us. Denise Hope from the Gold Coast Australia said she had come a long way to have a look at our Stanage Edge and she couldn't have picked a better day, just wall to wall blue skies. Thank you Denise for taking our pics. We got back onto the footpath on the edge and decided on a different path back so we took a path down off the edge which led us through some woods and onto the road. Rob and Ike found a tiny pond with newts in and our Rob managed to catch one before putting it back. From there it was an uphill trudge to the car park.

This was another cracking Sunday morning walk, only 3 1/2 miles but as usual we put the world to rights and just can't understand how politicians get it so wrong. We we were fortunate to see / hear some lovely birds including a curlew, Ring Ousel, one of the pipits not sure which and we saw a lapwing fighting off a crow. We met some interesting people and may be back in the area next week visiting Redmires Reservoirs.
See you next week
